Edo by-election is shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle, with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), leaders confident of victory ahead of the August 16, 2025, National Assembly Poll.
The party’s leaders, led by Chief Tony Aziegbemi, at an enlarged rally in Oluku, Ovia Federal Constituency, said they are determined to vote, stand by their votes and ensure a fair election.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of stealing the people’s mandate in the last Governorship election; vowing that the upcoming poll would be a decisive comeback for the PDP.
Aziegbemi charged the party supporters and democracy lovers to ignore threats posed by the APC and continue to exhibit resilience during the election.
He emphasized the conviction of the party in a message of hope and development preached during their campaigns which he claimed will resonate with the electorate during the voting process, following what he called the inconsistency in securing lives and property by the ruling APC in the state.
PDP’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Harrison Omagbon refuted the notion that the party only exists on papers following the wave of decamping that greeted the party lately.
Omagbon affirmed that the party remains very active in Edo State and has made necessary preparations to secure victory at the by polls.
For Dr. Asue Ighodalo, PDP has proved they are unrelenting, calling for its supporters to continue to believe in kicking out hunger, insecurity, through their votes, adding that voters should participate and defend their votes.
In his remarks, the Party Standard bearer, Rev. Johnny Aikpitanyi assured supporters that his candidacy was not for a self-enrichment but for the people, just as he dismissed APC’s threats, likening the contest to biblical David and Goliath story.
He expressed his confidence in the expected outcome, pledging to make Ovia shine again, bringing good governance, accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness to the constituency.
The rally with the theme “Hope and Change for Our Federal Constituency”, drew several notable PDP henchmen, including the 2024 party’s governorship Candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, PDP Vice Chairman Hon. Harrison Omagbon, Former Commissioners for Works Hon. Osaze Uzamere, as well as Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Monday Osaigbovo, the former Ovia North East Chairperson, Hon. Lucy Omagbon, former Chairman Ovia south west, Hon. Destiny Enabulele, Party LGAs Chairmen, and a host of other party stalwarts.
