Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has extended heartfelt felicitations to Muslims and non-Muslims alike on the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

In his goodwill message, Comrade Alenkhe emphasized that “a good life does not just happen,” noting that it is “built by daily prayers, humility, sacrifice, and patience.”

Reflecting on the significance of the festival, he reminded Nigerians of the profound act of faith and obedience demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to the will of Allah.

He described Eid-el-Kabir as a celebration of faith, sacrifice, submission, and truthfulness to divine will.

He further highlighted that the festival falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which also coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage.

Alenkhe also used the occasion to call on journalists in Edo State to remain committed to reporting news that strengthens democracy. He stressed that journalists have a constitutional responsibility to uphold accountability, citing Section 22 of Chapter 2 of the Nigerian Constitution.

“Section 22 of the Constitution states that the Press, Radio, Television, and other agencies of the mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in the Constitution and hold the government accountable to the people,” he stated.

He reiterated the critical role of the media in promoting transparency and accountability in governance, urging all practicing journalists in Edo State to strictly adhere to the ethics of the profession.

Comrade Alenkhe concluded by encouraging media practitioners to continue to serve as the voice of the people while maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity, and dedication.
