Operatives of the Edo State Police Command were at the weekend confronted by a disturbing and shocking discovery when they raided the home of a deposed Edo Chief Priest (Ohen)of Okhoromi.
Alleged multiple human skulls, Two Ak-47 raffles and Snipers live bullets were said to have been recovered, sparking concerns about the nature and extent of crimes that may have been committed.
During the operation, the recovered items in the shrine of the Chief Priest by men of the Police Force, left members of the community and standbys in stunned silence.
It was learned that the deposed Ohen also during a confession pointed some top members of the community as his accomplices.
The recent development is coming barely two days after his sack by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, following several outcries over an alleged demolition of property, extortion, grabbing lands belonging to several members of the community and developers leveled against him.
Recall that Igbinovia was stripped of his title by the Benin Monarch after reviewing the allegation of abominable traditional practices which the Palace said were in clear violations of the Benin customs and traditions.
Chief Osaro Idah, the Obazelu of Benin conveyed Oba Ewuare’s decision to the elders of Okhuoromi, led by its Odionwere (village head), Pa. John Edosomwan who was mandated to administer the area on his behalf going forward.
Obazelu was joined by other Palace Chiefs, including, Isaac Oyeoba Oyeoba of Benin and Chief Uyi Okungbowa, the Ogua of Benin, while addressing Okhoromi elders and victims of land grabbing and property demolition at the Oba Palace in Benin City, where they warned that anyone who contravenes the verdict will incur the wrath of the law and ancestors.
A source who disclosed this said the presence of the firearms in the deposed Priest’s home raises questions about his possible involvement in several armed activities for a man who was supposed to be a spiritual leader and a custodian of the Oba’s deity.
The source who pleaded for anonymity emphasized that the discovery of these specialized bullets suggests possible connections to targeted violence.
The police have arrested the deposed Ohen and launched an investigation into these disturbing findings.
Despite no statement released yet confirming the arrest and recovery of the items by the police authority, the recent probe conducted by the Police Operatives of the deposed Chief Priest, fondly called Ohen of Okhoromi may have revealed a dark Secrets besides just demolishing and land grabbing activities.
As the case unfolds, many are left wondering about the extent of his involvement in these alleged crimes.
