Russia, Ukraine Set For All-Important Ceasfire Negotiations In Turkey

According to the Moscow Times, Russian officials will take part in direct negotiations with Ukraine in Turkey this week’s Thursday.
However, Russia has not disclosed who it will send to represent the country at the talks.

Following the protracted war between Ukraine and Russia and ongoing calls for a ceasefire, both countries are set for an all-important meeting in Turkey.

According to the Moscow Times, Russian officials will take part in direct negotiations with Ukraine in Turkey this week’s Thursday.
However, Russia has not disclosed who it will send to represent the country at the talks.

“Russia continues preparing for Thursday’s negotiations. That’s all we can say for now,” Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, was quoted as saying while speaking to journalists.

Peskov further noted that the Russian delegation would be announced “as soon as the president deems it necessary.”

This development comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier expressed concern over Russia’s refusal to commit to the negotiations.

“Ukraine has always supported diplomacy. I am ready to come to Türkiye. Unfortunately, the world still has not received a clear response from Russia to the numerous proposals for a ceasefire.”

“Russian shelling and assaults continue. Moscow has remained silent all day regarding the proposal for a direct meeting. A very strange silence. One way or another, Russia will have to end this war — and the sooner, the better. There is no sense in continuing the killing.”

“President Erdoğan has expressed full readiness to host the meeting. It is important that President Trump fully supports the meeting, and we would like him to find an opportunity to come to Türkiye,” he posted in a statement on X.

The United States President, Donald Trump, on Monday raised the possibility of joining direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in Istanbul later this week.

Trump, who will be visiting the Middle East this week, was quoted as telling reporters at the White House, “You may have a good result out of the Thursday meeting in Turkey between Russia and Ukraine.”

“I was thinking about flying over,” the U.S. president said. “I’ve got so many meetings, but I was thinking about actually flying over there. There’s a possibility of it, I guess, if I think things can happen, but we’ve got to get it done.”

Several previous attempts to end the crisis between Ukraine and Russia have met a brick wall, with continued killings and destruction recorded.
