Police Arrest Officers Over Vehicle Vandalization In Edo

By Idahosa Musa

Edo State Police Command has arrested some of its personnel for allegedly vandalizing a vehicle parked at a location during a recent protest by some youths in Benin.

Moses Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, who disclosed this on Wednesday to newsmen in Benin, said the arrested personnel serve under the Quick Response Team

He said the officers were captured in a video conducting themselves in an unprofessional manner by smashing a vehicle parked at the location.

The PPRO stated that the officers are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures as stipulated in police regulations.

“You may recall the unfortunate attack on IRT personnel by some protesting youths at Okhuimwun Community on 20/05/2025 while in transit from Lagos through Edo State, leaving them with various degrees of life-threatening injuries and their vehicle vandalized.

“A reinforcement team deployed to the scene successfully rescued the officers and effected the arrest of some of the miscreants involved in the attack.

“However, some officers were captured in a video conducting themselves in an unprofessional manner, smashing a vehicle parked at the location.

“As much as the Command condemns the act of attacking the IRT personnel, it views the conduct of the police during the rescue as highly unprofessional.

“Therefore, these personnel, who have been identified as members of the Command’s Quick Response Team, have been arrested and are currently undergoing disciplinary procedures as stipulated in police regulations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, called for mutual accountability from the public, assuring the people of the state of the Command’s commitment to delivering policing services in line with best practices
