APC Governors Endorse Tinubu For Second Term

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election – an emphatic show of internal solidarity amid growing opposition realignment ahead of the next general polls.

The motion for the governors to endorse Tinubu was moved by PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sanit at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja,

Their joint action signaled a clear and united front among APC governors, who pledged full support for the president’s re-election bid.

Speaking on behalf of the governors, Uzodimma stated that the forum is committed to mobilizing political and material support across their respective states to secure Tinubu’s victory in 2027.

He lauded the president’s leadership style and ongoing economic reforms, which he said were laying the groundwork for national recovery and sustainable development.

“We are united in our support for President Tinubu. He remains the best candidate to lead the country through this critical period,” Uzodimma declared at the summit.

“The Progressive Governors Forum will spare no effort in delivering electoral victory in our states.”

This endorsement by the PGF adds significant weight to Tinubu’s political standing within the APC and comes on the heels of recent gestures of support from other party blocs.

Notably, governors from the North Central region had earlier passed a vote of confidence in the president, citing his inclusive governance style and investment in infrastructure and security.

Observers see the governors’ endorsement as a strategic move to consolidate party unity and preempt internal challenges to Tinubu’s candidacy, especially as the opposition makes moves to coalesce around a common platform.

With growing talks of a united opposition bloc adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its vehicle, the APC appears to be closing ranks early.

The PGF’s declaration reinforces Tinubu’s control over the party structure and confirms him as the presumptive flagbearer of the ruling party for the 2027 elections.

While formal primaries remain a constitutional requirement, the public declaration by the governors – who wield significant influence in the APC’s internal processes – makes any serious challenge to Tinubu’s re-nomination unlikely.
