BY MIKE OSAROGIAGBON

Nemi Edwin-Iwo, the Commissioner of Police for Edo State has assured adequate security, warning all political parties, their various candidates and supporters against any act of violence during and after the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state.

CP Nemi stated this when he met with political party chairpersons and their governorship candidates as part of preparation for the gubernatorial election in Benin City, last Friday.

The police Chief stressed the imperative for a peaceful election, urging all political stakeholders to prevent their supporters from engaging in violence. He assured the participants of robust security measures to ensure that voters can exercise their rights without fear of harassment or intimidation.

The CP’s initiative was positively received, with several candidates expressing their gratitude and raising security concerns. CP Iwo responded by assuring that the police, in a healthy synergy with other security agencies, would protect all stakeholders and secure electoral materials to facilitate a smooth election process.

However, he announced ongoing efforts to confiscate illegal arms and ammunition and called for public assistance in providing information to support a secure electoral environment.
