Insecurity: Group Advocates Adequate Compensation For Troop To Curb Corruption In Military

The World Institute for Peace (WIP), has called on Nigeria’s government to consider adequate compensation of troops to curb corruption in the military.

The Executive Director of WIP, Lamina Omotoyosi, made the call at a press conference in Osogbo, Osun State, on Friday.

He also appealed to Nigerians to give necessary support to the troops by providing first-hand information that can lead to the exposure of criminals who disturb the peace of the country.

Omotoyosi posited that the military deserves better treatment for the risk, the sacrifice, and the critical role they play in safeguarding national security.

“It is crucial to recognize that the fight against insurgency requires collective efforts from all sectors of society.

“The Nigerian military plays a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, maintaining internal security, and contributing to peacekeeping efforts. As such, military personnel must receive the best salaries commensurate with their sacrifices, dedication, and the risks they face.

“Nigeria’s military personnel willingly put their lives on the line to protect the nation and its citizens. They face numerous risks, including combat operations, counter-terrorism efforts, and peacekeeping missions. These brave men and women endure long separations from their families, endure physical and mental hardships, and often make the ultimate sacrifice. Recognizing their sacrifices by providing them with the best salaries is not only a moral obligation but also a means to motivate and retain highly skilled personnel and to also, get more.EzoicEzoic

“Nigeria faces various security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, and communal conflicts. To effectively combat these threats, the military must attract and retain highly skilled personnel. Offering competitive salaries ensures that the military can recruit and retain the best talent, enhancing its operational capabilities and overall effectiveness.

“Providing military personnel with the best salaries is a means of promoting professionalism and ethical conduct within the armed forces. Adequate compensation reduces the temptation for corruption and unethical practices, ensuring that military personnel remain focused on their duties and responsibilities. By rewarding their commitment and dedication, the military can foster a culture of integrity and professionalism, which is crucial for maintaining public trust and confidence,” Omotoyosi said.
