Lead Campaign To Sanitize Nigeria’s Electoral Laws Now, Rights Activist Tells Peter Obi

…Says Obidients should wake up

Nigeria Good Governance Research Centre Executive Director, Comrade Igbotako Nowinta, has said that the battle to sanitize the laws managing the electoral process in Nigeria should start now, and Peter Obi should immediately assume its leadership.

In a press statement he issued in Abuja yesterday, Comrade Nowinta, a renowned international conflict resolution expert cum human rights/pro-democracy activist, said “the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, during the February 25th, 2023 Presidential Elections in Nigeria, Peter Obi, should start to lead a national campaign for the sanitation of Nigeria’s electoral laws now”.

Nowinta noted that it is an aberration that “a so called Professor Mahmoud Yakubu,” who presided over the brazen rigging of the worst conducted elections in the history of our country, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is still presiding over our electoral process today.

“It is abnormal and seething that a sitting President of Nigeria, in Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, who got ultimate political victory via the Supreme Court of Nigeria, after a searing judicial war about his educational certificates, is still the one recommending and appointing commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission, he said.

Nowinta further bemoaned: “The brazen abnormalities and manipulations we observed during the last governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States are glaring reminder that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and his so called commissioners, are simply on a mission to destroy perpetually the ability of Nigerians to transparently vote condidates of their choice.

“The fact of the matter is that the beneficiaries of the current electoral manipulations are causing mass starvation, deepening poverty and ruining the lives of Nigerians, as a result of rudderless political leadership.

“Today, we are experiencing economic misery, repressive and kleptomaniac rule because election riggers are at the corridors of powers all over the country.”

Flowing from the above, he continued, “l hereby call on the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, during the February 25th, 2023 Presidential Elections in Nigeria, Peter Obi, should start to lead a national campaign for the sanitation of Nigeria’s electoral laws now.”

“What are the Obidients waiting for, what are patriotic Nigerians dilly dallying about that a character like Mahmoud Yakibu has not been riotously asked to vacate the scene? On this note the Obedients should wake up too, to join the advocacy for the sanitation of the electoral laws in Nigeria.

“Surely Nigeria cannot continue like this, therefore as concerned patriots, we must be prepared to wake up one day, to embrace the highest ideas and aspirations of the majority by exhibiting the irrational cruelty of the mob against the enemies of Nigeria’s electoral sanity, to claim back our country.
