FGGC 50th Anniversary: Betsy Obaseki Charges Citizens On Morality

Edo State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki has Identified gaps in moral values as part of the numerous issues militating against Economic and Societal growth in Nigeria, asserting that until citizens begin to respect the culture, traditions, and legacies of their forebears, the country will continue to run at a loss.

Betsy Obaseki gave the charge during the 50th-anniversary ceremony of the Federal Government Girls College, held last Saturday in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.

The state first Lady who was more concerned that Nigerians have deviated from the original path of their forebears said, the people must now retrace their steps to have a better state and country.

While calling on members of the egalitarian society to build on the legacies of the hero’s past, she reiterated the state government’s commitment to Education through the Edo Best initiatives, which she claimed has received global attention.

Using the Secretariat building initiated by the former Governor of the then Bendel State, late Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia as typical of such a legacy and values for tradition, she emphasized that Governor Godwin Obaseki has emulated the vision after completing the project renovation.

She explained that successive governments had abandoned the project which now housed workers in the state who were onetime scattered across various rented apartments.

Earlier in her opening remarks, the school Principal Aghedo Osamudiamen said over the years, the school has attained a symbol of excellence in nurturing young minds and preparing them for future endeavors.

Aghedo noted while reflecting on the milestone achievements of the Educators who have served in various capacities to leverage opportunities to continue to provide a holistic learning environment to enable the students to discover their unwavering talents.

The high point of the ceremony was the book launch titled; The Coral Beads as well as the Award of Excellence awarded to the wife of the Edo state Governor Betsy Obaseki who is also an alumna of the school.
