Edo State Government, on Friday, led football lovers and other residents to major roads and streets within the Benin metropolis to rally support for Bendel Insurance ahead of Saturday’s CAF Confederation encounter with ASO Chlef FC of Algeria, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Edo City Transport Limited, Mrs. Hauwa Dupe Ohikhuai, who led the road show, said the campaign was to mobilize Edo people in their numbers to come out tomorrow to cheer the State’s football team to victory.

According to her, “We are embarking on this road walk to create awareness and enable people to come out en masse to the stadium tomorrow to cheer our Bendel Insurance team to victory.

“It is a very important match for us because for more than three decades, we have not had this kind of match. Now that we are going to be having it here, we want to use it properly to our own advantage.

“The governor has ordered that we provide all our buses to offer free rides to people so that we can all be at the stadium to cheer our Bendel Insurance team to victory. We need to be there for them, to cheer and encourage them to victory.  Today, we are having a road show to create awareness.

Ohikhuai further noted, “Tomorrow by 12pm, all the locations that we have been announcing including Ugbowo, Siluko, Airport Road, Mission Road, New Benin, Sakponba Road, Aduwawa/ Eyan, Sapele Road and Ekewan Road, buses will be made available to pick everybody.”

She added, “As you enter the bus, free tickets will be given to you to go into the Stadium and watch the match peacefully. There will be free jerseys and other gifts items for the first 100 people. We are also to pick them back to the destinations where we picked them from. We are encouraging Edo people to come out to cheer the Bendel Insurance to victory. We want the stadium to be filled so that we can give them moral support.”

The road show kicked off from Agbor Road through Akpakpava, Kings Square, through Ekenwan Road to Stadium Road, among others.
