By Eben Enasco

Benin Zonal Command of the  National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says key players will have to demonstrate stability against underlying causes to end Human Trafficking in Edo State

It also noted that deepening efforts with collaborators will sustain the drive.

The Zonal Commander Nduka Nwanwene who gave the admonition on Sunday, during this year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons sensitization match in Benin City said the agency has deployed cutting-edge initiatives to achieve the set goals.

Speaking on the achievements of the Zonal office, Nwanwene said a high-profile trafficker was on March 8, 2023, extradited to Italy to serve her 13 years of jail terms after a court convicted the suspect.

He maintained that as part of NAPTIP’s achievement nationwide, no fewer than 20,000 victims have been rescued with 624 convictions recorded.

This year’s theme “Leave no one behind” according to Nwanwene, is the central transformative promise of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and its sustainable development Goals (SDGs).

While commending the efforts of several collaborators including The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, the International Organization For Migration (IOM), and other relevant actors, the NAPTIP Zonal Boss,  said on this year’s 20 years of anti-human trafficking efforts in the Country, he is calling on all interest groups to galvanize support towards addressing the menace.

Nwanwene opined that it was crucial to raise awareness and reinforce global commitments to eliminate trafficking in persons.

The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed annually on July 30, to raise awareness, promote, and protect the rights of victims including physically challenged persons in society.
