Obaseki Must Account For Edo Library, Labour Party Demands, Urges Voters To Reject ‘Handpicked Candidates’

Benin City, Nigeria – Edo State Media & Publicity Committee Chairman of Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Comrade Igbotako Nowinta, has challenged the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, to show the people where the Edo State Library Board is presently situated in the State.

Nowinta who made the call recently, while addressing newsmen in his office in Benin City, called on Edo voters to reject at the poll, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, whom he alleged were handpicked by the governor.

The campaign spokesman, who was visibly worried that the Edo State Library Board, which was headquartered along Sapele Road in Benin City, for many years, is nowhere to be found because the government demolished the building, while presently building a shopping mall on the same spot.

He regretted that the library which had been an immense treasure for Edo citizens is no more.

According to Comrade Nowinta:

“The Edo State Library Board stationed at Sapele Road has been demolished for about three years now. You don’t close a public Library of such magnitude, without getting an alternative place to keep the precious books for the benefit of the general public?

“Obaseki should account for the library; we don’t want to hear that those books are missing; he ought to have transferred the books in the library to another location pending when the new one will be ready. Most of those books in that Library are invaluable; they could not be replaced.

“Why tear down a magnificent library without a plan to keep it running? Where do Obaseki and his Commissioner of Education, want Edo people to access those precious books?

“This shows glaringly how unfocused and pedestrian Obaseki and his Commissioner for Education are, in matters relating to the educational development of the younger generation in Edo State. Obaseki where is Edo State Library?

“The recently launched Edo Education Hub in the State capital was an after thought, a clear evidence that the Governor is not only ideologically hollow but administratively visionless. Where has he been since 2016; why launching Edo Education Hub now, with just about one year to the end of his administration; what has he been doing in the last seven years?

“It is now very clear that his Make Edo Great Again (MEGA) agenda is a facade, a choreography; we indeed have a “wake and sleep Governor” on our hands.

“Because this Governor has demonstrated glaring incompetence and waywardness in administering the good people of Edo State, especially in the educational sector, l hereby call on the voters in the State, to reject Governor Godwin Obaseki’s handpicked candidates, warming up to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming general elections.

“Edo people must be committed to do everything to vote Peter Obi and other L P candidates in the fast-approaching general elections.

For comments, Alltimepost.com called Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media Project, but he did not answer the phone.

We then contacted the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr. Chris Osa Nehikhare who said he would respond when he sees the publication.

Nehikhare described the Labour Party as “non-existent.” “It is a one-man political party. They are looking for cheap popularity. Obi may be popular, but the party does not exist. I don’t want to give them popularity,” he concluded.
