AIG Zone 5, Lawan Jemita Dead

Benin City, Nigeria – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of zone 5, AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, is dead.

Jimeta reportedly died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Benin City, Sunday morning.

Unconfirmed report said the zonal police chief was rushed to the hospital after he had a domestic accident.

“He slipped and fell in the bathroom, smashed his head, and was in the hospital for over 5 days before his death,” the report said.

The Public Relations Officer for Zone 5, SP Tijani Momoh Amend confirmed the death and promised to issue a statement on it.  He is yet to do so at press time today.

The zone 5 comprises Edo and Delta States police Commands with headquarters on Adesuwa road, Benin City.

It would be recalled that AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta assumed duty in zone 5 on January 13, 2022, after taking over from AIG Ahmad Abdur-Rahman who was redeployed to the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

Prior to his elevation to AIG rank, he was the 41st commissioner of police, Edo State Police Command between November 21, 2019 and June, 2020.

Also, before his deployment to Edo Police Command he was the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State.

The zone 5 spokesman SP Tijani Momoh had in a previous statement disclosed that AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta was born on September 9, 1964 in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in the English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University

AIG. LawanTanko Jimeta, psc enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.

He served in various capacities in the Nigeria Police Force including as Personal Assistant to the AIG of Police, Department of Training and Development, FHQ Annex, Lagos State and Chief of Training, Directorate on Peacekeeping, FHQ, Abuja.
