Hoodlums Attack, Burn INEC’s Enugu Office

Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in the Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State has been burnt down by arsonists.

A statement released by INEC’s National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye on Monday via the Agency’s verified twitter handle, said the attack happened at 11:48pm on Sunday July 3, 2022.

According to the INEC spokesman, the arsonists forced their way into the premises and burned down the building after overpowered security guards in charge of the commission’s office, based on report from the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Enugu State, M. Emeka Onanamadu.

The commission noted that although no casualties were reported, 48 ballot boxes, 240 voting cubicles, office furniture and equipment were destroyed in spite of the best effort of the Enugu State Fire Service deployed from Nsukka.

According to INEC the incident has been reported to the police for investigation.
