AIG Zone 5, AbdurRahman Redeployed After 3 Weeks, Jimeta Takes Over As New AIG

Benin City, Nigeria – Barely three Weeks After he assumed duty as AIG Zone 5 in Benin City, Ahmad AbdurRahman has been redeployed to the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

In his place, another Assistant Inspector General of Police, Lawan Tanko Jimeta has assumed duty in zone 5 Command Headquarters, Benin City, Edo State.  

The zone 5 Public Relations Officer DSP Tijani Momoh disclosed this in a statement dated 13th, January 2022 and posted on the Edo State Police Command official WhatsApp pages on 14th January, 2022.

AIG Tanko Jimeta’s assumption of duty in zone 5 on Wednesday, January 13, 2022 came barely three weeks after AIG Ahmad AbdurRahman took over from AIG Isaac O. Akinmoyede on December 16, 2021, who was redeployed to zone 9 in Umuahia.

Zone 5 Command with its headquarters on Adesuwa road in Benin City is in charge of Edo and Delta States police command.

AIG Jimeta however solicited the cooperation of the good people of Zone 5 in providing useful and timely information to the police towards checkmating crimes and criminality in the entire Zone.

According to police statement, “AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc was born on 9th September, 1964 in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from the University of Maiduguri; and a Masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.

“ AIG. Lawan Tanko Jimeta, psc enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on 3rd March, 1990 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and was trained in the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State.

“He has served in various capacities which include:….Operations Officer, Security Intelligence Bureau, FHQ Annex, Lagos. CSP Administration, SIB/CIB, FHQ Annex, Lagos; Chief of Training, Directorate or Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja; Area Commander, Suleja, Niger State Command. Deputy Director and then later Director, Directorate of Peace-keeping, FHQ, Abuja.

“Commissioner of Police, Central Criminal Registry, FCIID, FHQ, Abuja. Commissioner of Police, Police Mobile Force, FHQ, Abuja, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command, Benin City, Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, before his redeployment as the 21st Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he was later promoted to the prestigious rank of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

“AIG Lawan Tanko Jimeta’s involvement in Peace-keeping Operations started way back in June, 1996, when as a Deputy Superintendent of Police, he was part of the contingent of the Nigeria Police Force to Bosnia and Herzegovina, since then he has been involved in so many Peace-keeping Operations accross the world which include: African-Led Multi-dimension Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA); United Nations Multi-dimensional Mission in Mali (MINUSMA); United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor (UNMIT); United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

“The AIG has also served as a one time member of the prestigious African Union Police Strategic Group at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“In the course of his career, the AIG has attended some professional courses both home and abroad. These include: the Advance Detective Course at the Police Staff College, Jos. An international course on Protection of VIP and vital installation at the Mubarak Police Academy, Cairo, Egypt. An international course in Peace-keeping and International Conflict Resolution at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Geneva, Switzerland. A course in International Humanitarian Law and Law of armed conflict also at UNITAR, Switzerland”. The statement revealed.
