Kidnapped DPO Regains Freedom In Edo

Benin City, Nigeria – Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Ibrahim Aliyu Isaq of Fugar in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State who was reportedly kidnapped a week ago has regained freedom.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command SP Kontongs Bello stated this in statement posted on the command’s official WhatsApp page at 9:47pm, Thursday, December 2, 2021.

“This is to inform officers, men of the command and the press that CSP Ibrahim Ishaq, DPO of Fugar have been freed by the command operatives from kidnappers den….further details will be provided soon,” the release hinted.

It will be recalled that CSP Ibrahim Aliyu Isaq was in company of his orderly, one Sgt Aliu when he was kidnapped at Ekwuosor enroute Aghenebode about 6:30pm on Friday, November 26, 2021.

The gunmen were said to have few hours after, initiated a contact with his family and demanded a whopping N50million ransom for his release.

The police spokesman in Edo, SP Kontongs Bello while confirming the incident in a statement last week stated that the DPO and his orderly were in mufti driving in a private vehicle when the armed men struck and that the orderly managed to escape while his superior was whisked into the bush.

“The armed men suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on their private vehicle forcing them to stop. They however whisked CSP IBRAHIM ISHAQ into the bush while the orderly managed to escaped,” SP Kontongs disclosed.

It could not be ascertained at press time whether the ransom was eventually paid before the DPO was left off the hook.
