Assailants Invade Police Barracks In Benin, Kill Businessman

Assailants have murdered a businessman in Ogida Police Barracks in Benin City, Edo state capital.

The victim, Mr. James Otobo Macaulay, 46, was hacked to death inside his shop 26 at the Police Wives Association (POWA) wing of Ogida Police Barracks about 7am on Sunday, September 5, 2021.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has vowed to track down the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The spokesman for the command SP Kontongs Bello stated this while confirming the unfortunate incident to our reporter yesterday on Tuesday.

He added that the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary in Benin City.

SP Kontongs assured residents and occupants of the barracks and its neighborhood of adequate protection of lives and property.

Wife of the victim, Mrs. Rachael Otobo said her husband left home some minutes past 6 am to join his two boys at his rental shop, only to be stone-dead inside the shop about 8pm when she went in search for him.

The mother of four children, however appealed to the police, government and other security agencies to ensure the killers of her heartthrob are arrested and made to face justice.

She said the whereabouts of her husband’s two boys remains unknown as they have abandoned the one room apartment rented for them by her husband.

His telephone was said to have been taken away after the act.

Blood stains littered the floor when our reporter visited the shop located about 50 metres away from the Superintendent of Police Officers (SPOs) blocks in the barracks.
