Insecurity: Tambuwal Convenes Stakeholders’ Meeting

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State yesterday convened stakeholders, peace and security meeting to dialogue and brainstorm on effective ways of getting local solution’s to the incessant insecurity in the state.

The stakeholders comprised former governors, former deputies governors, former and present national and state assembly members, and traditional and religious leaders in the state.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the governor said the meeting was held with a view to putting forward practical and proactive measures that would address the security challenges in the state, especially the eastern part.

“This challenge is a matter of concern to all the stakeholders present here that is why all of them are present here”, he stated.

He noted that the meeting was significant, stressing they were in unison in discussing the challenges and ready to find lasting solution to the menace.

He therefore said they have collectively resolved to work together, saying the committee was set up under the Sultan of Sokoto to collate people views and recommendations inorder to find lasting solutions to the challenge.

He thanked his predesuccessors for personally attending the meeting despite their tight schedule, maintaining.that there cannot be development in an atmosphere of chaos.

When asked whether people.would be told to take arms to defend themselves, the governor said he would not preempt till people’s views and recommendations were collated .

Those present at the meeting include former Governor Dahaltu Attahiru Bafarawa , Sen Aliyu Magartakada Wamakko, Ahmed Gusau former deputy governor, forme and present national and state assembly menbers, Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and district heads in the state.

Others in attendance were representatives of Nigeria Army, Immigration, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and local vigilant groups.
