Ortom: Atiku, Peter Obi Call For Review Of Security Architecture

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate in the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi, have condemned the attack on the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

The Governor was attacked yesterday at Tyo Mu along Makurdi-Gboko Road while on his way to Markurdi, the Benue State capital.

Condemning the attack, Atiku called for a thorough investigation, adding that there is a need for a rejig of the nation’s security architecture.

He said on Twitter, “The reported attack on Gov Samuel Ortom is worrisome and stands condemned.

“I hereby call for a thorough investigation into the matter and restate the need for a rejig of the nation’s security architecture and a constitutional framework that empowers the states to control their internal security.”

On his own part, Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, recalled the attacked suffered by the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum.

He wondered what the plight of the ordinary citizens is if governors in the country could be attacked.

The former governor also called for a review of the nation’s security architecture to prevent Nigeria from drifting into a failed nation.

Obi tweeted, “The attack on Gov Samuel Ortom on Makurdi-Gboko Road, further exposes how precarious our security situation has become. Before Gov Ortom, it was Gov Zulum, leaders of subnational entities.

“If our Governors can be attacked at will, what then is the plight of ordinary citizens? There’s an urgent need to review our security architecture to stem this drift into a failed nation.”
