Edo Records 32 New Cases Of COVID-19 2nd Wave, 18 Recoveries

…As govt urges compliance with guidelines

Edo State has recorded 32 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) and 18 recoveries, with the state government enjoining residents to be cautious and observe all precautionary health and safety protocols to guard against the spread of the deadly virus.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, said this during a meeting of the Edo State COVID-19 Taskforce chaired by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He noted that it was necessary for residents to take personal responsibility to remain healthy and safe by complying with all guidelines amid rise in the number of cases in the second wave of the pandemic.

Obi disclosed that one of the new confirmed cases was reported from the Edo Specialist Hospital laboratory while the remaining 31 were confirmed at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) laboratory.

The Incident Manager, who reassured the government’s commitment to containing the pandemic across all communities in the state, noted that the state has continued to record steady rise in sample collection since December 1, 2020 when the state started tracking the second wave of the deadly virus.

He noted: “We have, in the last 24 hours, recorded 32 new cases of COVID-19 from the the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) laboratory and the Edo Specialist Hospital laboratory with 18 more recoveries. We now have 585 active cases who are currently receiving treatment at various isolation and treatment centres in the state.”

According to him,  “Cumulatively since the outbreak of the pandemic, Edo State has  recorded a total of 3,721 confirmed cases, 136 deaths, 3000 recoveries, 617 health workers infections with 29, 250 samples collected.”
