Armed Robbery Suspect Almost Beaten To Death By Benin Vigilante Group

A 37-year-old armed robbery suspect, early Monday almost got beaten to death at Iduwe Street, off St Saviour Road in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria after he was caught in action by some members of the community Vigilante group.

When newsmen arrived the scene of the incident the armed robbery Suspect, Kelvin Edobor could barely express himself as his speech slurred terribly.

An eye witness said the suspect, in company of other hardened bandits, armed with various dangerous weapons broke into the houses of their Victims at about 1: 30 am  and immediately began to terrorize the occupants, carting away their valuables and inflicting bodily harm on them.

The hoodlums were said to have inflicted deep cuts with axes on some persons they also robbed, one of whom is now lying critically ill at an undisclosed Medical Facility.

The bandits were also said to have had  unchallenged breakage into the houses of their victims owing to loud noise from electricity generating sets which prevented neighbors from detecting any possible attack.

However, luck ran out of them as men of the Nigerian Police and members of local Vigilante who were alerted about the invasion promptly responded to the distress call and swung into action.

He was said to have been nabbed while others escaped.

The suspect said he “actually came to that place to rob people from his ancestral place Uromehe Community, near Abudu headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state.”

One axe, two torch lights, mobile phones and undisclosed amount of money were recovered from the armed robbery Suspects.

Edo Police Command said the suspect, after a thorough investigation will be charged to Court.

In another development, the family of a 35-year-old man, Mr. Idris Emmanuel who has been kidnapped by unknown persons since last year has made a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed and the new Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Mr. Philip Aliyu Ogbadu to kindly look into the issue with a view to rescuing their Son.

Relatives of the Idris Emmanuel who was kidnapped at Okpilla, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State since November 11, 2020 have been thrown into confusion and agony as his abductors have up till now not established any link or set him free.
