By Okhide Em’ya David

The popular saying of “every day for the thief and one day for the owner” assumed focus in Benin Suburb, Uhogwa, Edo State Nigeria  on Monday as two  Bandits who specialize in robbing  Point of Sale (POS) operators met their Waterloo when they were outwitted by a female victim.

It will be recalled that robbing and maiming operators of POS in Benin Metropolis  after the #EndSARS riot has become a past time for hoodlums who often out rightly murder their victims.

The Bandits Andrew Adubu and Destiny Olu, were said to have in a commando style, stormed the POS shop, located at the entrance of internally displaced persons (IDP) Camp in Uhogwa, Ovia North-east Local Government Area of Edo State.

Reports say on arrival the hoodlums  asked the operator to withdraw N200,000.00 from their account.

The female operator had hardly  inserted their ATM card into the POS terminal, when  the hoodlums brandished a locally-made pistol, popularly called “cut to size” and ordered her to part with her entire  cash and  mobile phones.

The POS operator however cleverly  knocked the gun out of the hand of the hoodlum  who brandished it and it fell to the ground.

The  Victim was said to have begun to scream for help and having  raised an alarm, the security agents stationed inside the IDP camp, were alerted and swiftly swung into action and apprehended the Bandits.

The Bandits Andrew Adubu and Destiny Olu who confessed to the crime during interrogation said  they resorted to robbery to raise money for a blissful Yuletide adding that it was highly regrettable  that the robbery backfired . The  locally-made pistol,  used for the failed operation,  three cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle were recovered from the Bandits.

Public relations officer,  Edo State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Chidi Nwabuzor,  while confirming  the incident, appealed to members of the Public to support the police towards  effective crime control especially during the Yuletide.
