Police, NYSC Strengthen Ties For Edo Guber Poll

Edo State Police and the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) have strengthened relations ahead of the state gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on September 19, 2020.
Consequently, over a thousand corp members have been engaged as ad-hoc staff during the election.
The duo’s long standing tie was renewed when the Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim paid a courtesy visit on the Edo State commissioner of police, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo in his office, Benin City on Thursday.
The NYSC boss commended the police command for the protection so far enjoyed by corp members posted to Edo State.
“I have been properly briefed of the role the command is playing in securing my corp members.
“I am here to personally thank the CP and the state police command for that and to further solicit for the command protection of corp members in the forthcoming election in the state”. Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim stated.
The commissioner of police, Edo State CP Johnson Kokumo assured the DG, NYSC of the adequate protection of corp members in the state as it is the statutory responsibility of the police to provide security for all and sundry.
“We are parents, they are our children. I am glad that over the years corp members have been used by Nigeria government and records have shown that they are apolitical and their efforts have been commendable”. CP Kokumo maintained.
Among the entourage of Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim were the NYSC Edo State coordinator Mr. Adebayo Ojo; Director, NYSC South South Area Office , Mr. Benjamin Omotunde and Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate Mr. Sanusi Abdulrasheed.
Highpoint of the visit was presentation of souvenir by the CP to the DG vice-vasa.
