Benin Royal Family In North America Warns Against Distortion Of Oba Ewuare’s Message

Benin Royal Family In North America has warned against the distortion and misrepresentation of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II’s peace message in the various quarters, especially the social media and advised perpetrators to desist from such devilish and sacrilegious acts.

It noted with disdain, the malicious act of some political actors and their agents who have doctored several versions of the video of the peace meeting hosted by the Benin Monarch recently, to satisfy their own selfish political interest and exacerbate the already tense or volatile political situation in the state.

The warning was contained in a press statement signed by its President, Prince Christopher Eweka; the Enogie (Duke) of Evbuohuan and member of the Elder’s Council, Prince Felix Omorodion and the Director of Public Relations, Prince Emmanuel Okunmwendia.

The organization said the Oba’s word is law and sacred because of the extraordinary wisdom and power with which he has been endowed by God almighty.

No one should twist or distort the Oba’s message to satisfy his or her own selfish political interest at the expense of peace and tranquility in the state, the organization warned.

According to the organization, the said doctored videos in circulation are a misrepresentation of what actually happened during the pre-September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election peace meeting at the Oba’s
palace.

The Benin Royal Family described the action of the merchants of such videos as a calculated attempt to cause disaffection and mistrust, and that it was an act of disrespect for the palace in its genuine and concerted efforts to ensure peace and tranquility in Edo State.

As apolitical, it noted, the Oba is not on the side of any of the gubernatorial candidates or political parties, rather his interest is in good governance and the development of Edo state for the betterment of his people; a peaceful election, devoid of bloodshed, and where the will of the people would be unequivocally expressed and upheld.

The organization urged the public to watch the genuine video, saying that the Oba never rebuked anyone, be it the Governor, Godwin Obaseki or his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, and that all he did was to make references to genesis of the political crisis, certain information relating to continuing acts of violence, and advised political actors to sheath their swords.

It waned agents of destabilization who are fanning the embers of violence to desist from their evil acts.

The family also said it has continued to watch the activities of various political actors in the state, noting that never in the history of the state has politics been so reduced to a game of the pigs with the destructive activities embarked upon by desperate politicians who have thrown caution and decency to the wind.

It said that no one should take for granted the fatherly love and magnanimity of the Benin monarch in his dealing with all sons and daughters of the state, warning that political actors should not capitalize on his goodwill and name to sell their selfish political agenda.
