NIGERIA: THE NEEDLESS NOISES ABOUT AMOTEKUN

By Igbotako Nowinta

Never before in the history of Nigeria, have our people been so mercilessly victimized and boxed into several corners of fear, by the worst forms of criminality – demonic acts of cultism, reckless wastages of precious human lives in street corners, everywhere in the country. The South Westerners having had their terrible fair share in mindless acts of terrorism by some unscrupulous elements eking a living from human slaughter, armed robbery and ransom racketeering have found a kind of security succor in what we now know as Operation Amotekun today. It is most regrettable and unfortunate that an organization, peopled by stark illiterates, banal-minded religious bigots and fanatics like Miyetti Allah is the one taking positions on behalf of the Fulani feudalistic hegemony in Nigeria today. When did the Fulanis degenerate to this abysmal level of retrogressive tendency? Where are the intellectual power house of the Fulanis? This bunch of Miyetti Allah constitutes genuine nuisance, as agents of retrogression and retardation.

Recently, a new security lexicon was introduced into our democratic space in Nigeria, called ‘Operation Amotekun.’

Amotekun, introduced by the Six Governors of the South Western States in Nigeria, to act as a complimentary security apparatus to safeguard the lives and properties of the people has been greeted with what l will call ‘needless noises’ in certain quarters in the country.

Many readers will soon see why l term it ‘needless noises’ being made to the heavens by a section of the people about the establishment of ‘Operation Amotekun.’

We have not forgotten that the United States of America became a sovereign entity on July 4th 1776, as a result of the merging together of strange racial bedfellows, (Blacks, Caucasians, Indians, etc.) where slavery, segregation, hatred and violence became a kettle of unnecessary anxiety, acrimony and eventual civil war.

The peculiarity of the United States internal crises metamorphosed into racism, segregation and other social inequalities, where the infamous white supremacy gangs like Ku Klux Klan (KKK) founded in 1865 and Jim Crow Laws unleashed heart-wrenching bloodshed and heartless murders on the black American population.

After the earlier savagery and horrors of slavery that tormented the black Americans, incredible lynchings became gory as countless race riots tore through the heart of the nation.

It was a direct response to the relentless bloodbath and genocidal attempts by racial bigots to subdue the African Americans perpetually that produced the likes of Rev. Martin Luther-King, Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad etc., who vehemently used various platforms to oppose the repressive orgies of the Caucasian race.

Readers will agree that the combative mechanism put together by the African American population manifested in radical groups like the Nation of Islam, National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) that went a long way to act like a kind of balance of terror to the ceaseless pogrom that the White Caucasian race conjured up against the black race in the United States.

Today, however, the racial acrimony has improved significantly for the better as the various statutory provisions embedded in the American system have almost swallowed up what were negatively available in the 1950s and1960s.

The Civil Rights movement secured the five Federal Laws and two amendments to the American Constitution; the Civil Rights Act abolished discrimination etc. The famous 24th Amendment is there. Though, now and then we still see and hear about sporadic racial tensions caused by some law breakers in the United States.

Coming to Nigeria and talking about Operation Amotekun, it is clear that the torrential down pour of insecurity has flooded the nooks and crannies of the nation to the brim.

Apart from the barbaric, inhuman and callous activities being perpetrated by the adherents of Boko Haram, parochial agendas like Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); and other banditry being sign posted by some individuals hiding under the canopy of herdsmen and militancy in the Niger Delta; kidnappings and other satanic models of premeditated cold blooded murders, have become common place in our clime.

That is to say that the level of insecurity in our nation is not only appalling but mind-bogglingly horrendous.

This bunch of Miyetti Allah constitutes genuine nuisance, as agents of retrogression and retardation; must we continue to remain in the useless bracket of religion, ethnicity, politics of acrimony engineered by village champions and morons?

Can’t we move on as a nation, must we allow our affairs to be dragged back to pre-independent Nigeria?

For me the noises being chorused and peddled around today by haters of Operation Amotekun is uncalled for. The Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and company want to control our so called democratic setting with authoritarian mindset and toolkit?

The kitchen cabinet in this dispensation must hug paradigmatic shift in remaking our country safe security wise. The Malamis of our country are simply telling us that they are simply unfit to hold sensitive positions at this level of our democratic development.

Operation Amotekun should not be politicized or ethicized by some deranged nitwits dealing in cow business. Miyetti Allah is the least qualified to point at the direction of our security Eldorado or current political permutation for 2023 Presidential Election.

Amotekun is nothing but a child of absolute necessity, out to bail out the Federal Government from its current lackadaisical attitude to effectively securing the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens within and across the country.

Certainty, Amotekun is far and above the inimical platforms such as IPOB, MASSOB and the rest.

It is a balance of security in a country where anything goes, a rescue entity, and a piercing arsenal against unprecedented banditry, unbridled insecurity and lawlessness in the South West of Nigeria. Other zones in the country can borrow a leaf from this timely phenomenon.

If anything the Federal Government should welcome it with open unfettered hands, move the country on like what had happened in United States, and ensure it will not be run counter to its expected laudable objectives.
