It was further gathered that  two other persons in the convoy whose identities were yet to be ascertained sustained bullets wounds.

The armed men who operated in two tinted vehicles waylaid the CMD’s convoy at the busy Ramat Park in the state capital about 10:00am on Monday.
It was scooped that the deadly operation sent passersby and traders in the area scampering to safety.

The CMD’S driver, Mr. Edewele Thadeus said the gunmen started trailing them in their operational vehicles from a bad spot at Ehor Town, as they did not know they had criminal motives.
He said the CMD was on his way to Benin Airport to catch Abuja bound flight where he was expected to attend a conference.
Contacted, the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said though information on the incident was still sketchy, the command had begun investigation.
