Fix Deteriorating Facilities, Equipment In UBTH, Oba Of Benin Tells Government, Management

Great Benin King, Oba Ewuare II has expressed dismay over the deteriorating state of facilities and equipment in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and called on government and the hospital management for improvement to serve patient better.

The Benin Monarch made the. remarks when the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Prof. Darlington Obaseki led the management team of the hospital on a courtesy visit to the Oba in his Palace during the week.

The Oba charged doctors and staff in UBTH to be more professional and exhibit good conduct to their patients.

His Royal Majesty commended the hospital management for its choice of General Yakubu Gowon as Special Guest during their Founders Day Celebration and wished them a peaceful and successful event.

The Oba commended the Chief Medical Director and Management of UBTH for striving to keep the ideals of the founding fathers of the hospital.

.Oba Ewuare II pointed out that the incessant strike by Resident Doctors in the hospital was a source of concern to the Palace and expressed satisfaction that relative peace has been restored in that area.

He used the opportunity to inform his guest that the period of their founders’ day celebration coincides with the time the palace  will be celebrating Ugie Ivie which will last for a month, during which the wearing of beads in Benin Kingdom is prohibited.

The Oba of Benin however promised to send high power representative to the UBTH founders’ day celebration.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki told the Benin Monarch that they were in the Palace to inform the Palace about the first ever Founders’ day celebration of the hospital and to seek Royal blessings and support to make the event a huge success.

Prof. Obaseki said the occasion would be used to honour those who have contributed to the growth and development of the hospital over the years.

He appreciated the Omo N’Oba for his support, encouragement and prayers for the staff and management of the hospital.

In another development, the Oba also received the National Association of Resident Doctors NARD led by its National President, Dr. Olusegun Olaopa with a charge to them to always cooperate with hospital management to avoid strike in the heath sector.

The Benin Monarch said many patients suffer during strike involving Resident Doctors and advised them to avoid what will bring sufferings to the people they are meant to treat and care for.
