Residents Hail Edo Waste Mgt. Board On Resumption Of Work

With the resumption of work by the Edo State Waste Management Board and deployment of men and equipment to major roads for waste management, Edo residents have hailed the impact of their work, attributing the clearing of debris across Benin metropolis to the Board’s renewed drive.

A cross-section of residents, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, at the weekend, said that the Board’s compliance with the order by the Court of Appeal is a welcome development, which will restore cleanliness to major streets and roads in Benin metropolis.

Mr Solomon Ehi, a businessman in New Benin, said that the roads are now clear of dirt as waste managers have been alive to their responsibilities in the last one week, noting, “We are very happy that the Edo State Waste Management Board has commenced operations. The situation before now was pathetic. The streets were overtaken by dirt. Medians on highways were a sorry sight to behold. The markets were worse off. So, I will say their resumption of work is a breath of fresh air, literally.”

He commended the Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, for giving the directive for the immediate evacuation of dirt across the state.

A trader, Mr Osas Obarisagbon, said that the sanity of the roads can be attributed to the work by the Edo State Waste Management Board, applauding the swiftness with which they resumed work.

According to him, “I will like to appreciate the state government for their determination to keep the state clean. I am very impressed with the work they have done since they resumed work. Most of the debris on highways have been cleared and we expect that more work will be done in the coming weeks.”

Recall that the Court of Appeal ordered for a stay of execution on a judgement of the State High Court, which annulled the law setting up the Edo State Waste Management Board and barred the Board from conducting business in the state.
