Gombe killing: CG Orders Psychological Test For All NSCDC Officers

Following the killing of 10 Boys Brigade members with a car by a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer, Adamu Abdullahi, in Gombe State on Monday, the Corps Commandant-General, Abdullahi Muhammadu, has ordered a psychological test for all NSCDC personnel nationwide.

The CG said he had also directed the forensic psychology unit of the Corps to work out the timetable for the security profiling of all personnel of the Corps “against future occurrences.”

Abdullahi reportedly crashed his car into an Easter procession killing 10 Boys’ Brigade members drawn from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Madaki and two parishes of ECWA Church in Bamusa and Barunde. The errant officer was subsequently lynched by a mob.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Okeh, said in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, that Muhammadu also commiserated with the injured victims as well as the families of the deceased.

The CG stated that the incident had no religious connotations, adding that the officer involved was not on duty, noting that he was driving his personal car when the incident occurred.

He said that the incident was unfortunate, describing it as “an act of God.”

The statement read, “The CG has sent a delegation of senior officers from the headquarters led by Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Crisis Management, Dr. Emmanuel Adeoye, to pay condolences to the Government of Gombe State, the Church, and the bereaved families.

“He has also directed the forensic psychology unit of the Corps to work out the timetable for the security profiling and psychological test of all personnel of the Corps against future occurrences.”

“Apart from the testing to re-examine the psychological and physical stability of personnel, the Corps will embark on massive training and retraining programmes for all personnel irrespective of the cadre in line with global best practices,” the CG stated.
