By MIKE OSAROGIAGBON

The owner of a popular multi-million Naira bar along Sakponba road in Benin City (name withheld) has exonerated himself from the ongoing cult-related killings in the state capital saying he was never arrested by the police as reported in the media.

The businessman who spoke through his lawyer Barr. Solomon Igbinere, last weekend said his client was never arrested in connection with the said cult-related killings in the state as he is not a member of any cult group let alone a kingpin.

“When I saw the media report, I was taken aback, it is the handiwork of some miscreants who are trying to drag his image in the mud.

“There was never a time he was arrested or apprehended by the police and he is not a kingpin in the popular cult war they are fighting in Benin here,” Barr. Igbinere stated.

He however condemned the killings which he said was negatively affecting business activities in the state capital.

Contacted, the Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said the said bar owner was interrogated following a statement of a suspected cultist in police custody.

The police spokesman disclosed that further checks revealed that the suspected cultist had a running battle with the bar owner as investigation had been launched into his allegations.
