Nigeria 2019: Police Train Officers On Election Security

A two-Day Capacity Building Program was at the weekend organised for officers and men of Zone 5 of the Nigeria Police Force ahead of the forthcoming General elections.

The training which began on Friday is on Democratic Policing and Election Security Management, convened by the Police Force in collaboration with Hi-Tech Security Services and Training Limited.

Declaring the program open in Benin city, AIG Zone 5, Baba Alkali Usman said the training was one in a series of lectures being lined up by the Force Headquarters to equip officers and men.

AIG Usman urged participants to take advantage of the training and apply same before, during, and after the elections, adding the success of the exercise lies on the shoulders of the police.

The AIG Zone 5 who was represented by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu also charged the participants to challenged themselves and be counted on the right part of history as the world is now focused on Nigeria. 

On his part, Chairman of Hi-Tech Security Services and Training Limited, Barr Lawrence Alobi explained that the program was to ensure that the police carried out their functions in line with modern democratic policing.

Barr Alobi, a retired Commissioner of Police maintained that adequate security is central to the success of the forthcoming polls, hence the training to prepare participants ahead of the challenges inherent in the conduct of elections.

Alobi, while urging the police to play by the rules guiding the process, enjoined the force to develop a cordial working relationship with the media as they are partners in progress.

The training which is for officers and men in Zone 5 comprising Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states Command, he noted would be replicated in other zones of the federation.
