Family Almost Wiped Out As Gunmen Kill Couple, Son, Granddaughter In Edo

Benin City – Tragedy struck last Saturday as gunmen allegedly killed a man, his wife, only son, and grand-daughter in their residence at Ugbogun Community in Uhunmwode local government area of Edo State.

The man, identified simply as Edebiri, his wife and children were shot to death.

It was gathered that two other of his daughters who were also at home during the attack, escaped death.

Elder brother to the deceased, Pa Osaretin Oteh, said his brother might have been killed for refusing to give his land to members of the proscribed Community Development Association (CDA) in the village.

Pa Osaretin alleged that CDA was still operational in the community despite its proscription in the state by Edo State Government. He said his late brother refused to allow the CDA members take possession of his land.

Daughter of the deceased, Sandra, said the gunmen pointed a gun to her head and demanded for money, phones and jewelries. She said the armed men fired and that on opening her eyes her parents and siblings were in pool of blood, dead.

Sandra added that her father had earlier informed them about threat to his life but they did not take it seriously until the gunmen struck. Her sister, Princess said the gunmen fired at all of them in the room to ensure that they were killed.

“They killed our father, mother, brother and my niece. We want the police to find the killers.”

Corpses of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor could not be reached for comments.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police recently posted to the state CP Hakeem Olusegu Odumosu has visited the scene of crime in company of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
