His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin has performed the Ugie-Iron ceremony, as part of the activities marking this year’s Ugie festival celebration.

The Ugie-Iron is a ceremony to re-enact the battle fought between the Uzama (Edion) and the Edogun troops loyal to the Oba of Benin centuries ago.

To commemorate the event, a mock battle is usually staged between the Uzama (Edion) and the Edogun, and it provides opportunity for them to pay homage to the Oba as well as renew and pledge their allegiance to the Benin Monarch.

The ceremony which took place at the Ugha-Erhoba in theOba Palace was attended by array of palace chiefs, members of the Benin RoyalFamily, as well as sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom. The Ugie festival continues.
