I Remain Edo Deputy Speaker, Edoro‎r Insists

The member representing Esan Central in the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Edoror, has described his impeachment as unlawful.

Edoror also maintained that he remained the deputy speaker and would resume his position on Tuesday.

No fewer than 16 members had reportedly removed the embattled lawmaker, over ‎alleged corruption, high-handedness and acts capable of destabilising the House.

But reacting, Edoro told our correspondent on the telephone that his “purported” impeachment lacked merit as the lawmakers responsible lacked the two-thirds majority spelt out by the 1999 Constitution.

He said, “As it affects Edo House of Assembly, we must have 16 members. As we speak, there were six. So, they do not have the number.

“We asked about the people who signed and the majority said that they did not sign. So, they are dwelling on serious illegality and it cannot work.”

He continued, “Why would someone have a desperation to become a speaker? How? Did I plan to impeach the Speaker? What is high-handedness? I think they do not know what they are talking about.”

Edoror, who denied the allegation of corruption, also accused the Speaker of allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the House and attempting to create a rift between the National Chairman of the APC, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole; and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He said, “Do I have resources to handle as the deputy speaker? Why would corruption come in? He (Adjoto) is the one that is corrupt.

“Again, he is trying to cause a problem between comrade Oshiomhole and the executive governor of Edo State, by telling the governor that the comrade is using us to impeach him (Adjoto) so that they can impeach the governor. I remain the deputy speaker.”
