Our Grouse With APC, Why We’re The Real Deal – “Reformed APC”

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he group is believed to have the backing of key leaders of the party including the Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and a former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Although the three men have not openly associated with the new faction, they have also not denied their association with it.

On Wednesday, the faction, which named itself “Reformed APC” briefed journalists in Abuja.

“We are sad to report that after more than three years of governance, our hopes have been betrayed, our expectations completely dashed,” Buba Galadima, one of the leaders of the faction said.

“The APC has run a rudderless, inept and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the Nigerian people. It has rather imposed dictatorship, impunity, abuse of power, complete abdication of constitutional and statutory responsibilities, infidelity to the rule of law and constitutionalism.”

The press briefing was also attended by Kawu Baraje, a former Peoples Democratic Party leader who led some disgruntled members of the PDP, then called nPDP, into the APC in the build up to the 2015 election. The members of the nPDP then included Messrs Saraki, Dogara and Kwankwaso.

Sources involved in the “Reformed APC” had earlier told PREMIUM TIMES that the faction is in discussion with other parties including the PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) for a possible coalition to challenge the APC in 2019.

Abdul-Aziz Nyako, an Adamawa senator and son of a former governor, Murtala Nyako, hinted of the discussion among the parties last month.

On Wednesday, the “Reformed APC” questioned the election of Adams Oshiomhole and other leaders of the APC at the recently concluded convention in Abuja.

The faction said it had appointed its own leaders across the states.

“The R-APC as constituted have officers in all the wards, 774 Local Governments, and all the 36 States of the Federation including the FCT.

“The R-APC also have National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee and other organs of the Party are properly constituted and functional,” the faction said.
