[dropcap]H[/dropcap]is Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II of the Great Benin Kingdom has suspended the Odionwere of Egbirhe, Mr. Napoleon Oduware Omobude and three others from functioning as leaders of the village.

In a statement released today by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Mr. Desmond Agbama, the Benin Palace gave the names of the three others suspended, as Mr. Vincent Ugiakha, Frederick Omo Igbinidu, and Patrick Obayuwana.

The suspension which was pronounced at Ogua-Emanton was as a result of their actions of allegedly assaulting Palace emissaries who were sent by the Oba of Benin to demarcate the boundary between Egbirhe and Okhoromi.

The suspended Odionwere and elders of Egbirhe were also said to have disobeyed the directive of the Palace, which forbids them from having anything to do in the Elders Council Hall “Oguedion” in the village.

Consequently, the Omo N’Oba directed the next-in-command, Mr. Douglas Igbinidu to assume the position of Odionwere with immediate effect, to be assisted by Chief Jolly Owie, Godwin Enodumwenben Omorotionmwan and Solomon Owie.

Mr. Igbinidu was advised to join hands with Palace Chiefs to ensure peaceful and lasting resolution of the boundary dispute between Egbirhe and Okhoromi.
