Oba Ewuare Charges Commissioner Kokumo To Tackle Police Abuse In Arrest Of Citizens

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]is Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin Kingdom has charged the new Police Commissioner in Edo State, Mr. Johnson Babatunde Kokumo to tackle the misuse of police personnel by some individuals to arrest and intimidate other citizens.

Oba Ewuare II who gave the charge in his Palace when the Commissioner of Police paid him a courtesy visit also drew the attention of the Police Chief to the menace of herdsmen in the state, with a view to tackling it.

The Benin Monarch informed Commissioner Kokumo about the existence of the Private Property Protection Committee, which was established to help enforce the ban on the activities of Community Development Association (CDA) in the state, and solicited the assistance of the law enforcement agency in ensuring that the committee succeeds in its duties.

The Oba of Benin noted that crime and insecurity scare away investors, pointing out that with peace and a crime-free society, investors would be encouraged to invest in the state.His Royal Majesty told the Commissioner of Police that a meeting of
heads of security agents in the state would soon be convened to discuss possible way to tackle the various security challenges in the state.

While welcoming Mr. Kokumo to Edo State, Oba Ewuare II assured him of Palace cooperation in ensuring that he succeed in actualizing his vision and mission for Edo State and the citizens.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Babatunde Kokumo said he was in the Palace to introduce himself and solicit Royal blessings to enable him and his men succeed in the onerous task of combating crime in the state.

Mr. Kokumo assured that under his leadership, Edo people will sleep with their two eyes closed, and solicited for useful information from members of the public that could lead to the arrest of criminals in the society.

Commissioner Kokumo said securing the release of suspects from Police custody is free and vowed to cleanse the state Police of corruption. He noted that illegal arrest of members of the public would not betolerated under his leadership.
