CPJ Calls On UN To Support Resolution On Human Rights In Iran

CPJ, along with over 30 Iranian and international human rights organizations, has called on the U.N. General Assembly to vote in favor of a proposed resolution on the promotion and protection of human rights in Iran next week.

The letter highlights how, despite steps toward human rights reform since President Hassan Rouhani assumed the presidency, Iran has failed to cooperate meaningfully with U.N. human rights mechanisms and has attempted to undermine and stifle members of civil society, journalists, and activists.

Separately, CPJ has documented how authorities froze the assets of 152 BBC Persian staff and their families and cracked down on journalists ahead of the May election.
