IMPLEMENTATION OF ACJA: EDO PRISONS COMMAND HOLDS WORKSHOP ON “CASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND STATISTICS RETURNS”.

The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Prisons Service held a training Workshop on Wednesday 14th June 2017 on the smooth implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, (2015) in the area of inmates’ Case Management System and Statistics Returns.

While declaring the workshop open, the Controller of Prisons Edo State Command, CP Osayande O. Amadin welcome the participants and stated that the workshop is aimed at building the capacity of the staff on the new Case Management System to improve on electronic reporting as against the manual mode and to ensure that Edo State Command of the Prisons Service continue to adhere and benefits from the requirements of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA (2015).

He mentioned the expected benefits to include the protection of inmates rights, timely reporting of statistic to Prisons National Headquarters Abuja, pursuits of Justice and timely disposal of Cases of those in Awaiting Trial/Remand, Prisons decongestion, guaranteed peace and security within the Prisons and in the general public.

The workshop which is among the several training and sensitization activities of the Command had papers delivered on “Case Management System (CMS) and Judicial Guarantee”; “Case Management System (CMS) in Prisons Service”, “Case Management System and Statistics Returns”, etc.

Explaining the concept of case management system, the lead resource person, ACIP Okunmwendia Osas stated that it is an electronic information system in the prisons service designed not only to speed up the Criminal Justice process but to also manage records, analyse statistics, upgrade record keeping from manual to digital, improve access to justice and Judicial Guarantees, aid infrastructural development, plan national security and budgeting, guide policy development, etc.

The Workshop was attended by participants drawn from the Records, Statistics, and the ICT Units of Prisons Formations within Edo State Prison Command.
