UMAR GANDUJE: REPLANNING PRIORITIES IN KANO STATE

alltimepost.com

As a man that has learnt greatly from the Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso extraordinary administration for eight years in Kano, from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015 as Deputy-Governor, Dr. Abdulahi Umar Ganduje is poised to continue with the free primary/secondary education in the state; the articulation of a master plan for a more modern city of Kano; Hydro power project, the continued passionate pursuit of the administration’s agricultural policy, etc.
Dr. Ganduje had clearly stated the philosophy of his administration on May 29, 2015 as thus: ‘‘I will like to re-iterate our commitment to total transformation of our dear state through the consolidation, continuation and introduction of more people-oriented projects, policies and programmes.”

It is truism that the prevailing economic recession in the country which started to manifest during the reign of ex-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is no respecter of anybody or institutions, including the running of the day to day affairs of government across the board.
In this dispensation we have seen many sitting Governors who meant well, and who wanted to actualize their campaign promises being forced to re plan or reschedule their priorities.
In replanning or restructuring with the view to be able to complete on-going projects or initiate new ones, we have seen many state Governors caught dramatically in the painful web of inability to pay workers’ salaries and other entitlements.
But, thanks to the frontal efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari administration that has introduced a drastic positive soothing economic balm into the system known as the ‘bail out funds.’
Indisputably, the bail out funds have enabled many focused Governors who are hell bent on living a lasting legacy in their respectful states in Nigeria to  pay debilitating back logs of salaries, and to refocus their developmental road map.
Dr. (Alhaji) Umar Ganduje who was part and parcel of the success story of Dr. Ibrahim Kwankwaso’s civilian administration of the state as then Deputy Governor, has displayed his sterling visionary credentials, as the number one citizen, even in the midst of the current economic meltdown in Nigeria.
In his almost two years in office, Umar Ganduje has been able to navigate his administrative compass in the direction of provision of democratic dividends to the people of Kano State.
Candidly, agriculture is one of the critical sectors where the Ganduge administration has taken huge strides. He has disbursed more than N4 billion to assist the local seed producers.
About 72 farmers working as extension agents have been trained on safe and effective use of insecticide, environmental issues and seed certification.
The Ganduge administration has empowered more than 10,000 women on multi-purpose skills acquisition by providing them with capacity building sessions .The government is also providing seed money for them to take off smoothly on their areas of specialization/interest.
Sanitation vehicles have been distributed to about 200 women for door to door sanitation exercise; the Murtala Mohammed fly over bridge to ease traffic congestion in the area is almost completed, while about 100 youths have been sent for training at the Peugeot Automobile plant.
Over 20 metropolitan rural roads have been reconstructed in places like Bompai, Kwaranga, Dakata, Kings garden, Burumburum, Kibbiya Rano, Tundun murtala, Siyas, etc.
Dr. Ganduje has graciously approved the distribution of motorcycles to the recently employed extension workers on 40 percent loan discount.
With his unquestionable thirst to make a difference in the life of his people despite the excruciating economic situation in the country, Dr. Ganduje will no doubt secure a second term ticket under the All Progressives Congress (APC))come 2019 Gubernatorial race in Kano State.
