Benin City – Hell was let loose on Thursday at the Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Benin City, Edo State Capital as the supporters of both the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engaged themselves in a free for all fight allegedly under the watchful eyes of the Nigerian Police Force.

The Policemen were alleged to have done nothing to bring the fight to an end.

A reliable source who does not want his name mentioned said trouble started when a supporter of the PDP, simply identified as Sunday came into the court premises with a branded T-Shirt with the inscription “Mandate Recovering Group” carrying the photograph of PDP governorship candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

The source said the supporters of the APC, allegedly led by one Mr. Tony Kabaka, his boys and some other unidentified group frowned at the development and looked for any opportunity to attack the Sunday as his entrance into the Court Premises with the T-Shirt raised tension.

“Sunday made some utterances that angered the APC supporters who used the much waited opportunity to launch an attack on Sunday as he was given the beaten of his life under the watchful eyes of the Police who watched while the fight lasted. Tony Kabaka boys did the damage as Sunday had blood stain all over his body, he was lucky to have escaped with his life,” the source said.

Speaking further, our source said as the fight went on the thugs ensured no one was recording or taking photograph of what was happening as men were on ground moving round shouting “no picture, no recording.”

Contacted for comment on the development, APC Publicity Secretary, Comrade Godwin Erhahon said his party would not descend so low by hiring thugs to carry out such act. He distanced the party from the fight.

The Public Relation Officer of Edo State Police Command, Mr. Moses Nkombe, when contacted for comment said the Command was yet to be briefed on the incident.
