The Edo State Independent National Electoral Commission has yet to receive from various wards the results of the September 28 governorship election held in Edo State, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday evening.

The election was conducted across the 192 wards in the18 local government areas of the state.

Although 19 political parties fielded candidates for the poll, the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, are the major contenders.

Accreditation and voting had officially begun at 8am and ended at 2pm, with the sorting and counting of the ballot papers.

But a visit to the headquarters of the electoral umpire revealed that collation was still ongoing in the different collation centres.

Operatives of different security agencies, including the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were sighted in strategic location around the INEC office.

Efforts by our correspondent to reach either the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, or INEC’s spokesperson in the state, Mrs. Priscilla Imoudu-Sule, were unsuccessful as security officials insisted that officials must be seated at their designated location.
