Obama’s Cuba, Argentina Visit In Review

By Jim Hock, Chief of staff to U.S. Commerce Secretary

With that historic tweet (“What’s up, Cuba?”) President Obama arrived in Havana, Cuba this week with Secretary Pritzker and other administration officials ready to build on the progress they have made toward normalization of relations between our two nations.

In addition to meeting with government officials and a delegation of American business leaders, the Secretary engaged with local entrepreneurs to highlight the work they are doing to energize Cuba’s economy and reinforce the Administration’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship in Cuba.

The Secretary also traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina with the President to meet with the newly elected Argentine President, Mauricio Macri, where they discussed cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, renewable energy, climate change, and security issues.

During the trip, Secretary Pritzker also met with Argentine Minister of Economic Development Francisco Cabrera and established the U.S.-Argentina Commercial Dialogue.

Secretary Pritzker also sat with U.S. and Argentine private sector leaders at the American Chamber of Commerce Argentina Summit to solicit input on ways to strengthen the commercial and economic ties between our countries.

Thanks for all that you do to keep America Open for Business.
As this week’s events demonstrate, President Obama and Secretary Pritzker believe that increased commercial engagement between nations can lead to more effective solutions to our global problems.
