Kogi lawmakers Impeach Speaker, Deputy

Members Of the Kogi State House of Assembly Have Impeached The Speaker, Alhaji Jimoh Lawal, for incompetence and misconduct.

The Speaker was impeached today along with his deputy, Ali Akuh, and minority leader, Hassan Bello. Lawal, whose impeachment was endorsed by 17 out of the 25 members of the Assembly, was replaced by Godwin Osuyo with John Abbah as the new deputy speaker and Enenche Linus as the new the minority leader.

The new deputy speaker, who later addressed journalists, said the decision to change the speaker of the Assembly though painful was the right one, to move the state forward. He said,

“The former speaker is incompetent, and not capable to work in harmony with other members of the House who are set to put smiles and joy on the faces of all Kogites
through the use of legislative instruments.”

He explained that members discovered that the speaker was not competent to lead the Assembly and was not representing member’s interest well enough to the governor leading to a misconception about him and his style of governance.

He said that the removal of these officers should be seen as an affront on the executive adding that it also has nothing to do with the incoming governor. Rather, he said it was purely based on incompetence on the part of the officer involved.(Punch)
