Edo 2016: Group Calls For Debates Among Aspirants

BENIN—Ahead of the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, a group, Peter Esele Solidarity Committee, PESOC 2016, has called for issue-based debates among all those aspiring to succeed Mr Adams Oshiomhole to enable the people elect the best candidate that will fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A statement in Benin, yesterday, by Mr. Efosa Nehikhare, acting Director General, PESOC, said, “As the race to find Oshiomhole’s successor begins in 2016, we want to appeal to our APC compatriots to stimulate issue-based debates.

“Yes, our party has done well in all fronts, but Edo people will agree or disagree on the degree of wellness in the various departments and agencies, within the context of our campaign mantra in 2007 and 2012 respectively. For us, our vision bearer, Peter Esele, is equipped with the germane responses to these tasks.”

“As a veteran industrialist and former President of the Trade Union Congress, he appreciates the aspirations of Edo people, and what is at stake now is character, integrity and capacity. This is more so, as states of Nigeria daily grapple with a sordid decline in oil revenue or federal allocation.”

“So, our campaign is not about which senatorial district is most qualified or suitable, but, who among the legion of gubernatorial aspirants understand the thrust-deficit logjam that the electorate or grassroots have against the political class as a result of years of endless or failed promises.”

Insisting that it was incontrovertible that the Oshiomhole has done very well, given time, space and remote circumstances of his governance, the group said governance was a-continuum and Edo people need the best candidate to succeed the governor.
