Former Minister of Information, Senator Uche Chukwumerije on Sunday evening died in the Turkish Hospital, Abuja at the age of 75. A statement from his family signed by Chidi Chukwumerije revealed that the veteran lawmaker died suffering from lung cancer related ailment.

Reacting to the death, Senate Spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, described the lawmaker who until his death was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Education as political giant and one of the nation’s finest legislator.

He noted that the deceased, who represented Abia North Senatorial District of Abia state in the current senate easily passes as a repository of legislative tradition and practice.

“The Senate will surely miss his erudite contributions on the floor of the chamber and his painstaking approach to committee work. Chukwumerije was indeed an embodiment of legislative tradition and consummate activists democrat who loved his people passionately,” he said in a statement. (Daily Post)
