We Need To Reengineer Our Defence Structure – Minister, Aliyu Gusau

Minister of defence, Aliyu Gusau says for Nigeria to stem emerging security challenges, there is need to review the operational method of intelligence gathering.

Gusau made the statement at the Defence Advisers and Attaches Annual Conference in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The current security situation in the country has necessitated the increased involvement of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the internal security operations. The minister of defence, Aliyu Gusau said there is need to restructure the country’s defence Advisers Attaches system to harness the expertise in the fight against the menace of terrorism in the country.

Gusau said, “Taking together the global and the domestic security environment, it is imperative that Nigeria need reengineers her defence and security structure to cope with the stress.”

Apart from re-engineering their defence advisers attaches management system, there is an ongoing acquisition of equipment and capacity building to improve the operational methods of intelligence gathering processes.

A top tanking military official said, “The defence attaches would be able to give us better intelligence especially from our neighbouring countries where we have this security challenges, that is the Boko Haram sect that is going on in the north east.”

The annual conference affords the defence advisers and attaches the opportunity to review progress made for the year as well as discuss the contemporary security challenges affecting the country. (AIT)
