Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Prof. Ade Adefunye last Wednesday assured that the challenges facing his country would soon be overcome by the collective determination and goodwill of the Nigerian people.
Prof Adefunye who spoke at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington D.C. as a host during the celebration of Nigeria’s 54th years of nationhood advised Nigerians to remain steadfast in their resolve to move the country forward.
Ambassador Adefuye reiterated President Jonathan’s remarks that due to the hard work and dedication of Nigerians, the country was now Ebola free.
He acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian military in crushing the leadership of Boko Haram and that the menace posed by the insurgency would soon be over.
Ambassador Adefuye praised Nigerians in the US who are widely acknowledged for their professional excellence in various aspects of life and meaningful contributions to the development of the country.
He also acknowledged the United States for it continued support to Nigeria in combating the Boko Haram insurgency.
Special Guest of Hon at the event was the Hon Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, who brought goodwill messages from President Jonathan and Nigerians back home.
He reiterated government’s efforts to transform all aspects of Nigeria’s economy and ensure the country’s respect in the international community.
Mr. Moro also acknowledged Prof. Adefuye’s efforts at restoring cordiality in the US-Nigeria bilateral relations.
The evening was marked by an art display by the UNICEF Arts award winner, Mr. Ibiyinka Alao as well as an exhortation to Nigeria at 54 by Mrs. Folake Alade.
