2019: PDP Raises Another Alarm, Alleges INEC Ad-hoc Staff In Closed-door Meeting With Edo Govt Officials

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has raised another alarm, alleging that the recently recruited Ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a close-door meeting with top officials of Edo State government in the Festival Hall within the government house premises, Benin City, todayThursday February 7, 2019.

Edo PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, in a statement released in Benin today, alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government  has resorted to bribery, inducement and falsification strategy to subvert the will of the people “because it has lost the support and the confidence of the people.”

“We must all resist the undemocratic antics of the Edo APC government.”

The PDP also called on the government to be mindful of what happened in Ondo state in 1983 and the unfortunate manipulation of the western region elections in the first republic and the people’s reaction.

Below is the full text of the statement:

INEC AD-HOC STAFF IN CLOSED DOOR MEETING IN GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

Our attention has been drawn to a meeting between top officials of Edo state government and the recently recruited Ad-Hoc staff of INEC that took place in the Festival Hall within the government house premises, Benin City, todayThursday February 7, 2019.

We are aware that the APC government has lost the support and the confidence of the people and has now resorted to bribery, inducement and falsification strategy to subvert the will of the people. We must all resist the undemocratic antics of the Edo APC government.

We call on the government to be mindful of what happened in Ondo state in 1983 and the unfortunate manipulation of the western region elections in the first republic and the people’s reaction.

We wish to state clearly that for our democracy to survive, all political actors must respect the inalienable rights of our people to freely choose the leaders they want.

We call on all registered voters in Edo state and our indefatigable supporters to remain calm and be vigilant.
